The Wayside Shakeup’s newest single, Hometown Burndown, jumps out at you with a singalong chorus and then dives into the kind of storytelling we’ve come to expect from the group. A landmark diner and a local watering hole in the band’s hometown caught fire within a few months of each other. The band crafted a clever (and entirely fictional!) narrative around the troubled soul who might have been responsible for the double arson. The result is pure pop rock, driven by a steady backbeat, laden with bright harmonies and even a piano breakdown that would make Bruce Springsteen proud.
